Jewish Father & Son Sentenced For Vandalism
(ANA) Al Rubin, 47, a Jew, and his son, Steven, 29, were sentenced to prison for having vandals spray‑paint swastikas and damage buses at a Jewish school so they could profit from the clean‑up. Al, a body shop owner in Florida, was sentenced yesterday (8/12/96) to three years in prison and 500 hours of graffiti cleaning. During his sentencing, Al turned to his wife and cried, saying "Can you believe this? Three years. Three years." Steven was sentenced to eight years in prison and 500 hours of graffiti cleaning. Prosecutors said that the Rubins paid someone to have two teen‑agers damage buses and spray‑paint swastikas at Hillel Community Day School last year. Steven Rubin was the school's transportation director at the time and gave the repair work to his father's shop, whose slogan is Where our customers and our honesty are number one priority. Steven was also accused of charging the school $4,000 for $79 oil changes. Commenting on the charges, Steven Rubin said "I am not guilty of the crimes I'm charged for. Why would I go against my own people for $5,000, $10,000? I'm Jewish."
